OSHA APPOINTS 15 MACOSH MEMBERS

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today announced the reappointment of all members to the 15-person Maritime Advisory Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH).

The commitee advises OSHA on issues and concerns involving the maritime industry, focusing specifically on shipyard and marine cargo-handling areas. Committee members represent diverse maritime interests, including government, shipbuilding, longshoring, labor and professional organizations.

"The committee, with its vast amount of expertise, will be a valuable resource in helping the agency address the often complicated and sensitive issues surrounding maritime industries," said OSHA Administrator Charles N. Jeffress.

Focusing on more effective enforcement strategies, improving training and outreach programs, and streamlining rulemaking techniques, MACOSH will help make the U.S. shipyard industry competitive globally, while ensuring the safety of its workers.
